School's Out!

Ok, so school was officialy out last Friday but I am finally getting some time to update here so...

We've been having a good week so far, the weather has been good & HOT, though today we have had afternoon t-storms & showers. But that's ok, rain is good too & we needed it!

Of course I have pics to share (when don't I?) so I will start with some of Layla swimming for the 1st time this year in her pool she got for her birthday & her Spongebob bathing suit...

On June 5th (last day of school) Jake had his 5th grade graduation. So, so sad in a way for me. I was thinking about that & wondering why us moms get so emotional about things like that- we know it's going to happen, we want them to grow up & be happy. But I think it's just the idea that our innocent, happy gradeschoolers will be moving on to the middle school with older students. Peer pressure sets in, the teen years start...all the not so nice things.
They played a 20-30 min. slideshow of the 5th graders throughout the year that was set to music and if that isn't a lump-in-the-throat moment, I don't know what is. The songs included "Unwritten", "Friends(theme song)", "Stand by Me", "It's so Hard to Say Goobye to Yesterday" and a million other tear-jerkers.
Middle school - I just can't believe it. I remember his first day of kindergarten like it was yesterday.
Well, enough about that, thinking about it is making me sad all over again!
It was raining that day as well but they still had their swim party & had a great time.
Here are a few pics of him getting his diploma & with some of his friends...

Later that day was Russ' company picnic at the Mill Mountain Zoo. It was Layla's first time going & she was SO excited, though they all were. We got to park in a parking garage downtown then took a bus up the mountain to the zoo, the kids loved it, lol.
They got free cotton candy & popcorn too- couldn't believe we didn't have to pay for it! Ha ha!

Here are a handful of the pics, I have many more of them & the animals.

riding the Zoo Choo

Jake loves this (so do I, lol!!)

And of course, even though we're at the zoo, we still had to hit the playground! LOL

Layla's favorite attraction- the snake!! She loved this thing & wanted to hold it. Said he wanted to lick her face!

"Red", the owl

After going through the zoo we went back to the food tent & grabbed some chow. They had a live band playing & another playground where the kids ended up after eating.
Then since we were so close, we walked up to the star & took some pics.
After that, we were ready to go! Got in line for the bus & went home sweet home.... :-) All in all, a great day!

I also finished the wedding album for Julia last weekend, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. It was my first acrylic album & a definite learning experience! I mailed it out Monday so she should get it today or tomorrow. I'm anxious to see what she thinks about it...!

Here are a few of Jake & Layla on the 7th...Sam was at the pool with his friends. I was practicing with my camera & white balance settings, not sure if it worked or not! LOL But I got a couple photos of the 2 of them I absolutely LOVE.

And last but not least... our baby bird adventure....6-9-09
(copied from FB)

They fell/jumped/were pushed out of their nest today, by our driveway. One hopped over to a puddle & sat there. Layla walked right up to him & began petting him...

This is baby bird #2. He hopped over by a tree.
Of course Layla had to pet him too...

Back to baby bird #1....
She decides he is hungry & needs worms. So we got a trowel & dug up some worms :-)
She is somewhat concerned over her beloved "wormy's" certain death but pushes it aside & decides the birds *hunger* is more important...

Nice birdy...

Her words- and I quote-
" Open your mouth, bird!"

still trying to get him to open his mouth....

such a cute little thing...

Success! Well, almost...

She just picked up each side & shoved it in there...

...and in it went!

Can't forget about Bird #2....

Fast friends...♥

"Thank you" said Baby Bird. *LOL*

Shortly after this he began hopping across the yard chirping & his parents began flying overhead. One of them landed by baby #1 & he followed her over to some pine trees.

Jake came home & put gloves on to pick up baby #2 and take him over close to where where his sibling & parents were.
He began hopping around shortly afterwards...

One last pic of the family, safe & sound...

We did get another visit from the family later that evening, they were all doing well which was nice to see.

Oh, before I go, here is the July kit for SO!! I think this is going to be such a fun kit! It's Cosmo Cricket's Snorkel...

So, that is about it for now... Sam is back outside playing after a little bout of his coughing since he went swimming on Monday. I got the dr. to call in prescriptions for his albuterol for the nebulizer and an inhaler so it's nice to be re-stocked, esp. before heading north next month. He's had several breathing treatments & is doing much better.
There is supposed to be a baseball tournament tomorrow but we don't know the times yet. Also hoping it doesn't rain.
I need to charge the battery for the camera too!
His banquet is Monday, at the Salem Red Sox game, should be fun!

So, off to put the laundry in the dryer & read for a bit on this rainy day... have a good one! :-)
